Introduction

Background

Founded in 1981 by Peter Price to investigate "Landscape Archaeology", SWAG (South Worcestershire Archaeological Group) now has over 120 members, many of whom have an interest in practical fieldwork. We organise a wide range of field trips and visits together with a programme of winter lectures (please see our Diary for further information) and publish a quarterly newsletter.

Aims

SWAG aims to record the archaeological landscape of Worcestershire parish by parish, mainly through earthwork surveys, fieldwork, hedgerow recording and documentary research. We carry out experimental archaeology and occasionally excavation when needed. Please see the projects page for further information.

Local connections

The society enjoys close links with Worcestershire Historic Environment and Archaeological Services and through these, members have been involved with projects such as the Time Team dig at Throckmorton Airfield near Pershore and the Wyre Piddle Bypass scheme.
